Smithers council looks to ease costs for property owners from development bylaw

Smithers council is looking to raise the trigger threshold for a bylaw that has business paying for off site developments like sidewalks after developments.

They want to bump it up to 100 thousand from 75 thousand dollars explains Mayor Taylor Bachrach.

“And so council wants to send a bit of signal that we want to make things more affordable for local property owners, and raising that threshold is a part of that,” says Bachrach.

Councilor Phile Brienesse was the only councillor originally oppose to the idea.

Council will meet tomorrow(TUES to adopt the bylaw.
