No Frills grand opening combined with Salvation Army Kettle Kick Off

The Salvation Army will be holding their Christmas Kettle Kick Off Friday morning during the grand opening of the No Frills grocery store in Smithers.

Director of the Bulkley Valley ministries Tim Sharp says their fundraising goal of 55 thousand dollars for 2017 is distributed locally.

“Not just to help with Christmas support, but it goes to help with the whole year. Our soup kitchen, drop in and clothing,” says Sharp.

Their Emergency Services also provides help for those in need that may be travelling for medical needs including temporary shelter and emergency transportation.

Regarding the food bank and those in need of shelter, Sharp says that increases in the winter months.

“People are looking for a warm place to put their head for the night,” says Sharp.

He says the Salvation Army runs the Food Hamper Program in Houston looking to distribute over 150 hampers in the coming new year.

The Kettle Kick off starts at the new No Frills from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. where Manager Jerry Rodgers is expected to present the Salvation Army with a cheque.
