The Smithers Fire Department is being deployed to Cache Creek to fight wildfires there.
Fire Chief Keith Stecko says four firefighters will be travelling there immediately with an engine and a support vehicle.
“We want our crews to stay safe and wish them god’s speed to do what they need to do,” says Stecko.
He says fighting wildfires is a dynamic situation that comes along with its own risks. He says when the crew gets there they’ll have the appropriate briefing on the situation.
Stecko will be staying back in Smithers to keep an on things in town. He says the entire force is 45 members strong.
