BC workers earn an average of $940 per week in May

Workers in BC had more jingle in their jeans thanks to a very kind average weekly earnings survey from Stats Canada.

Several sectors led the way says analyst Dylan Saunders.

“The average weekly earnings were up 2.5% to $940 with notable increases in professional scientific, and technical services, administrative and support services and manufacturing.”

Here are the top four provinces with the highest average weekly earnings.

Alberta $1,120.19
Newfoundland and Labrador $1,034.05
Saskatchewan $1,004.59
Ontario $987.11

The Northwest Territories earn the most per week among all the territories at $1,356.20

The year-over-year growth in earnings is a $22 increase from May of 2016 when it was just $918.00.

BC was only outdone by one other province Saunders says.

“The growth in earnings in this province trailed only Manitoba in the 12 months to May and also on a year-over-year basis the number of non-farm payroll employees in British Columbia grew by 2.9% or 60,900 on a year-over-year basis.”

Average weekly earnings in Canada remain higher than BC’s at $972.41.
