Property on Columbia rezoned

A property on Columbia Street has been rezoned to a newly created zone.
The building near the corner of Railway is currently being used for storage, office space and has one apartment in it.
However, the owner would like to use the bottom floor for light industrial uses and convert the second floor to four or five suites.
After a public hearing where only one neighbour spoke against it, council decided to allow for the change to the zoning.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says this change would be good for the community and would add more rental space.
“We did hear some concerns from one neighbour, mainly about parking,” he says. “Parking is of course a perennial issue in all parts of our community. In the end, council weighed the costs and the benefits and some of the different issues and decided to approve the rezoning and adopting the by-law.”
The property has been changed from light industrial to the newly formed light industrial-residential zone.
It is the first property in this new zone.
