BC’s Premier has voiced his intrigue on moving Family Day from the second Monday in February to the third Monday.
Days after John Horgan’s comments, recent ski resorts have said their opinions from the business perspective, including the Hudson Bay Mountain resort.
Spokesperson Catherine Matheson says the change could cause a dip in tourism.
“Our line-ups are out the door on Family Day, but the problem is, we have our plans in place for the Family Day discount. People may stay away, or they may to go and find something else to do, but it would definitely put a kink in the plans we already have in motion.”
She hopes the province will reconsider by taking all other businesses into account.
“Businesses like ski resorts plan their year far in advance. We would hope that the province would take that into account and, if they are going to consider this change, that they would make it further down the road; ideally not for two years or more.”
Premier Horgan has said the idea of moving Family Day likely won’t take place until after 2018 as he’s also considering changing Daylight Savings time.
