Cuba hitting all the right notes in 2017

It’s been a productive year for singer-songwriter Alex Cuba.

The Smithers-based musician is having a solid 2017 and just released his sixth album called Lo Unico Constante, which received a nomination for the Latin Grammys taking place in Las Vegas on November 16th.

It’s nominated in the best Latin singer-songwriter category.

He says it’s nice to still be recognized.

“It’s wonderful to be nominated once again, I have won four Latin Grammys so far, I have been nominated twice for the American Grammys, I won a couple of Junos in Canada and the list goes on. I am very grateful for the opportunities.”

Cuba’s new album carries a specific vibe.

“It’s a very soulful album, I did it mostly acoustic with songs that go from love to social messages, it’s very poetic and most of it is in Spanish – this album wanted to be this way.”

Cuba is currently touring across Canada where his band recently finished a stretch of consecutive shows between Winnipeg and Calgary, garnering a very vocal response from the public.

“Three of those shows were sold out and people were coming out to the shows and I was very grateful because in places like Saskatchewan there was a lot of snow and anything can happen when you’re on the road. When we leave the stage people keep asking me ‘What is a Cuban-Canadian doing touring in Canada during the winter? When I was asked that question I didn’t know how to answer it but then I prepared one and now I say to people we do that because of the people who don’t come our way to Mexico.”

Cuba is slowly making his way back to Northern BC.

After he returns from the Latin Grammys, Cuba has a show scheduled in Prince George on November 22nd at the Art Space.
