Recycle BC to terminate contract with Bulkley Valley Recycle Depot in the new year

The contract between Recycle BC and the Bulkley Valley Recycle Depot will be no more as of February.

However, the organization has offered the local depot another contract to handle materials like glass, foam packaging and plastic film.

Managing Director, Allen Langdon explains the reasoning behind the termination.

“We just had some ongoing operational issues with the depot and going forward we thought it would be more appropriate if they want to continue to the network if they collected a more limited scope of materials.”

Despite the move, they’ll still have a presence in the Bulkley Valley.

“We still provide curbside service in Smithers and we continue to be involved with an agreement by nature with the Smithers Area Recycling Society that continues to act the receiving facility for all that material for the curbside program.”

Langdon adds the ball is now in the depot’s court to accept the new contract.
