New anti-terror bill dangerous to Canadian's rights says Nathan Cullen

A new anti-terror billĀ being debated in the House of Commons isn’t sitting right with the MP for Skeena Bulkley Valley.
Nathan Cullen says theĀ federal government’s idea to give spy agencies and policeĀ new powers to combat terrorism infringes on the rights of Canadians.
“This gets into the realms of police state where you are observed all the time and assumed to be guilty,” he says. “And heaven forbid you ever put your name on a petition against a project or raise a concern with government. We have seen this all ofĀ government attack on civil society and our rights … this is very dangerous.”
The Conservatives say C-51 will protect citizens from possible attacks and they’d like the new security measures in place by the summer.
However Cullen saysĀ pushing through a bill like this isn’t the right way to run a country.Ā He says enhancements can be made to protect Canadians without sacrificing rights.
