Tahltan working group gets funding from province

The Tahltan Socio-Cultural Working Group is getting funding of $550,000 from the province.

Aboriginal Relations Minister, John Rustad says the group addresses social and cultural challenges that arise with development in the Nation’s remote communities.

“The Tahltan people have always had a real passion for their elders, with their youth and with their culture. So the province entered into an agreement a number of years ago now with the Tahltan people to try to help promote and work with the Tahltan on those issues. So we have created what we call the Tahltan Socio-Cultural Working Group.”

He says the group is a government-to-government collaboration which includes representatives from the Tahltan Nation and provincial government.

He says the money will go towards training, infrastructure and cultural support.
