RCMP Review June 11th – 17th

Smithers RCMP responded to 78 calls between June 11th and 17th.

Police received many concerns from residents about overnight vehicle break-ins.

Smithers RCMP are reminding everyone to lock their vehicles and to remove any valuables unattended, such as loose change, clothing, or tools.

Police say it’s not uncommon for thieves to break a $400window for your mere coffee change.

Last Friday, Policed were called about a stolen 1993 Honda Accord from the area near 2nd St and Queen St.

The vehicle was later found and brought in as evidence.

Police requested Terrace Identification services to help search the vehicle for more evidence.

Police are seeking witnesses and asking anyone with information to come forward.

They are also suggesting that drivers of older vehicles use a steering wheel lock.

Last Sunday, Police stopped a male driver travelling on HWY 16.
The driver was going 66km over the legal speed limit.

Police immediately seized and impounded the vehicle for 7 days.

The driver was given an Excessive Speed Violation Ticket and fined of $483.00
