SD54 reacts to new order by Dr. Bonnie Henry

Dr. Bonnie Henry has implemented an order that requires school staff to provide proof of vaccination.

According to School District 54 Superintendent Mike McDiarmid, there was some confusion about what was announced earlier this week.

He said it is currently not mandated for staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

“What this does is if the local Medical Health Officer asks our school district for that information then we would collect information about who is vaccinated and who is not,” McDiarmid said.

He added that it is a tool if the MHO needs it.

According to McDiarmid, the order came as a surprise for the school district.

He also said so far, there have been no impacts on schools.

“We haven’t been asked to provide that data so, really we are just in a holding pattern until they ask us,” McDiarmid said.

Additionally, Dr.Henry said during yesterday’s (Tuesday) new conference this order will help Medical Health Officers determine which schools are at a high risk for an outbreak.
