A new low income seniors program has been launched by Telus Communications for low cost internet across the province and Alberta.
According to Telus, eligible seniors will be offered two Internet for Good plans starting at under $10 a month.
The company added that seniors who receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement will qualify for this program.
Telus Spokesperson, Nimmi Kanji said there are an estimated 415,000 seniors across both B.C and Alberta that qualify for the program.
“It’s such an important program in our current COVID world that we’re all living in where so many things are being done virtually and online and to be able to give them access to a low cost internet is so important for them,” she said.
Kanji also said that this new expansion will bring positive impacts for low- income seniors.
“We know that internet connectivity helps seniors improve relationships, proven to reduce isolation. It allows them to pursue hobbies, just simple things like playing online games,” she said.
Kanji also added that having the internet will have access to online health services.
Low income seniors wishing to apply for this program can do so online or by mail.
