It’s been a long process, but local boarders and bikers can officially look forward to the new skatepark.
Town Council has given Boarding 4 Brant the go-ahead to design the proposed 10,000-foot park extension.
Boarding 4 Brant founder Jason Krauskopf says this is not only good news for local athletes, but also for tourists.
“I believe Smithers needs that little bit more of a highway attraction that people actually see it and want to stop and hang out for a little bit,” he says.
Boarding 4 Brant is working with Spectrum Skateparks on a design. The two hope to have it finished by snowfall so they can focus on fundraising this winter and break ground next summer.
Krauskopf hopes this park will be a catalyst for future tourism developments. Boarding for Brant will be holding public consultation meetings in the near future.
