Takla Nation, District of Houston receive funding to benefit seniors

Two projects that will benefit seniors in the Northwest have received funding from the province and the BC Healthy Communities Society.

This is through the Age-friendly Communities Grant Program which focuses on equity, sustainability and multi-sector partnerships.

Applications were submitted through two streams, one for age friendly assessments and action plans for as much as $25,000 and the second for age friends projects for as much as $15,000.

Takla Nation received funding from stream one for its Takla Nation Age-friendly Comprehensive Community Plan.

Meanwhile, in Houston through stream two it received funding for its Seniors Gathering Project.

A total of 25 communities, including four Indigenous communities were awarded grants for age friendly assessments, planning and projects to support seniors in leading active and independent lives.

$500,000 in grants was provided through the Age-friendly Community Grant Program.

According to the province 37 local and Indigenous governments submitted applications for the two streams.
