No Celebrity Golf Tournament next year

After a record-setting fundraising tournament, there will not be a Smithers Celebrity Golf Tournament next year.

The group of organisers decided last week that they will take the year off and plan ahead for 2017.

Co-chairman Kent Delwisch says the event takes about 8 months to organise, and he doesn’t want the event to lose its appeal.

“In a small town like [this] if you are doing the same thing year after year after year after year, I find that it loses its lustre a little bit,” he says, “not to mention it’s a heck of a lot of work for all the volunteers.”

Delwisch says the group will use the time to come up with fresh ideas for the next tournament.

The fundraiser will donate $120,000 to the Bulkley Valley District Hospital on Thursday.
