Following a reported phone scam, Terrace RCMP are warning people across BC to be on their toes when receiving suspicious calls.
Police say citizens will receive either a phone call or an email from a source claiming to be the Canadian Revenue Agency.
The recipient is then offered a refund or told they owe taxes and are asked to share personal banking information.
Cst. Angela Rabut says never give out banking info over the phone, especially if you aren’t the one initiating the call.
“Hang up and you generate that call, maybe to your financial institution or to Canada Revenue Agency and get that number for a reasonable source,” she says.
Rabut says RCMP receive 4 calls a day regarding this situation.
