Madison Scott investigation remains active: BC RCMP

It’s been over six months since the remains of Madison Scott were identified by the BC Coroners Service.

Back in May, the BC RCMP confirmed a significant development in the 12-year-old case as the investigation was led by the E-Division’s Major Crimes Unit with the support of the Vanderhoof detachment.

During this time, police executed a search warrant at a rural property on the east side of Vanderhoof, which was associated with the discovery of Maddy, but have yet to see any results.

Today (Thursday), Mounties confirmed to Vista Radio the investigation remains open following the spring discovery.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson issued the following statement on behalf of the E-Division’s Major Crimes Unit:

“This is an active and ongoing matter and while very little can be said at this time, we do not believe there is any further risk to public safety. Regardless of the amount of time that has passed, investigations that remain open are considered active. We are mindful of what information is released, in any investigation, in order to maintain the integrity and that the investigation is not compromised. More information may be released as it becomes available.”

In June, over two thousand people gathered at the Nechako Valley Secondary School track to mourn Madison in a candlelight vigil that was hosted by the North Stars Senior Hockey Team.

Michael Simoes and Brittany Giesbrecht were two of the organizers. Both of whom went to school with Maddy.

The vigil included speeches from Vanderhoof mayor Kevin Moutray, family friend Julie Hodson, and Mark Durupt, followed by a candle-lit and drum-filled lap around the school’s track and a moment of silence.

Mounties remind the public more information may be released as it becomes available.
