Another Case of Child Luring in Terrace

Terrace RCMP received a report of child luring earlier this week.

A 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in his 50’s after school on Monday, who demanded she get in his truck. The girl managed to get away and run into the bushes.

This is at least the fourth confirmed case of child luring case in the city since June.

RCMP are reminding parents to teach their children basic safety rules like:

– There is safety in numbers. Whenever possible walk with a friend or relative;

– Rides should never be accepted without asking a parent first, even if the child knows the person;

– It is okay to say NO. Should someone try to grab or restrain them, teach them to scream loudly, make a loud noise, and shout, This person is not my parent!;

– Whenever possible take notes of any physical vehicle descriptors and licence plates;

– Call 911;

– If you are familiar with the area, go to the home of someone you know or go into an open business;

– Establish a secret word or phrase for your family. This should be used in emergencies to identify a safe person other than their parent or caregiver;

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50’s, with balding brown hair and a “chubby face.”

He was driving either an older model Chevy or Ford truck a teal and grey stripe and a rusted bottom. There was a barbecue in the truck bed.
