Children’s cardboard creativity challenge Saturday

Smithers children will be partaking in a worldwide initiative over the weekend.

The “Global Cardboard Challenge” is meant to spark creativity in youth, who are encouraged to build absolutely anything out of cardboard

The challenge was started by a 9-year-old boy who created an arcade out in his dad’s auto shop in 2012. The video soon went viral, and the challenge spread around the world to places like Cuba, Rwanda, and the UK.

This is the second year the challenge will be hosted at the Smithers Library, and Director Wendy Wright says that she’s seen some very fun creations.

“A whole bunch of kids worked together to create an enormous robot that almost touched the ceiling of our children’s room,” she says, “Another girl found a box that big enough for her to actually curl up inside and she wanted it to be her own personal book nook.”

The creating will begin Saturday at 2 PM at the Library.
