Job losses in accommodation and food services caused Canada’s unemployment rate to rise last month.
Statistics Canada says it jumped to 6.1 per cent in March, up from 5.8 per cent in February, marking the largest increase in the unemployment rate since summer 2022.
Meanwhile,employment increased in four industries, led by health care and social assistance.
The B.C. unemployment rate is the 4th lowest among provinces but it increased slightly to 5.5 % in March compared to 5.2 the previous month.
