The federal Minister of Mental Health and Addictions says B-Cs request to roll back its drug decriminalization plan is under consideration.
But Ya’ara Saks notes the three-year pilot program to decriminalize small amounts of illicit drugs isn’t even halfway done.
On Friday, Premier David Eby asked Health Canada to amend the rules to make it illegal to use such drugs in public places.
The shift in policy came after harsh criticism over the threat of public drug use to public safety.
Saks said the drug overdose problem is a health issue, not a criminal one.
