Smithers Fire was called to a residence about one kilometre west of Smithers yesterday (Tuesday) for a house fire.
The blaze broke out at about 3:30 that afternoon and crews quickly closed Highway 16 near the Lake Kathlyn Road intersection.
According to Fire Chief Derek Dickson, the home was fully involved with the blaze and is not salvageable.
Smithers RCMP, Paramedics, and Telkwa Fire also attended the scene to assist.
“We wrapped up last night at 7:30,” said Dickson.
The highway was reopened soon after, and the cause is still under investigation.
