Wildfire behaviour continues to be low in the Wells area, with more resources on the way.
The Cariboo Fire Centre said the Cornish Mountain wildfire, north of Wells, remains at 70 hectares, and heavy equipment has nearly completed the machine guard on the side closest to Wells.
Once that’s complete, efforts will be focused on the north with ground crews working on mop up, and have established a wet line.
Wells Mayor, Ed Coleman says crews are continuing to keep the fires at bay.
“The interface fires, the ones closer to Wells and closer to the top of Barkerville, they’re out of control but they have everything coming in to get them under control.”
“The other fires that are in the area, like the Bowron area, they reviewed every single one of them and resourcing every single one of them as needed.”
The Fire Centre said there are 77 firefighting resources at the Cornish Mountain wildfire, 6 structure protection personnel and 10 pieces of heavy equipment.
While work continues on the fires, Coleman says the attributes of all the fires are also going underground which he says is highly problematic.
He added crews have tons of heavy equipment to put in deep fire guards, which will be around any fire they can get one around.
Coleman says there will be another Multi Agencies Meeting on Monday, July 15th, to follow up.
