The Northwest Fire Centre is reminding the public about the full campfire ban in effect following a blaze outside Smithers.
The wildfire started Saturday evening and grew to 0.009 hectares.
“Two helicopters, an initial attack crew, and an officer were immediately dispatched,” said Fire Information Officer Casda Thomas.
“One of the helicopters began bucketing water onto the fire from Lake Kathlyn while the initial attack crew gained access and began groundwork.”
The fire was quickly extinguished with the status being updated to “out” the next morning.
“This fire was human caused. It seems to have been started by an abandoned campfire,” said Thomas.
A full campfire ban is in place for the entire province, which prohibits fires of any kind.
Camping stoves and BBQs are still allowed.
If a wildfire is discovered, it can be reported through the BC Wildfire App or by calling *5555.
