$7000 and counting after “Oktober Chef”

A nearly sold-out crowd enjoyed the sights and smells of “Oktober Chef” on Friday night, and IKitchen workers will benefit from the funds raised.

The total amount is still being calculated, but the event has raised at least $7000 for the local group.

High Road CEO and contestant Dana Gorbahn says his favourite part of the cookoff was the competition.

“Being able to see what the other chefs were being able to bring, not just bring to the table at the end, but being able to go out and being able to get the excitement in the community over our programs,” he says.

Despite having to use tiny utensils, Hudson Bay Mountain Resort Services Manager Chrissy Chapman walked away the winner.

Gorbahn initially talked a big game before the event and learned a few things in his defeat.

“Well, I will certainly be far more humble next time, I won’t be touting myself as much as I did,” he says bashfully, “I put my foot in my mouth and I shouldn’t have done that.”

IKitchen is a local business where people with disabilities create low-cost meals for residents.
