Properties north of Witset on Evacuation Alert

An evacuation alert has been issued north of Witset due to the Corya Creek wildfire.

This is being issued by the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and Witset First Nation, affecting properties north of the community.

During an alert, residents are asked to start preparing in case of an evacuation order.

This includes gathering any important documents, creating a meeting point with friends and family, and planning to move pets or livestock.

The Corya Creek blaze is a fire of note and sits at 180.48 hectares according to the BC Wildfire Service.

Three helicopters, an initial attack crew, and heavy equipment are currently battling the blaze.

It was caused by lightning and originally discovered on August 10th.
