Several blazes in the Northwest Fire Centre remain Out of Control

17 wildfires are burning in the Northwest Fire Centre including one of note.

About 10 kilometres northwest of Witset is the Corya Creek blaze which remains out of control.

“We have 17 BC Wildfire Service fire fighters on site. We also have three helicopters, a structure protection specialist and structure protection crew,” said Fire Information Officer Casda Thomas.

That blaze sits at 180.48 hectares and has triggered an evacuation alert for the northern part of Witset.

Northeast of the community is the Netalzul Creek blaze which sits at 1,100 hectares.

“There is an evacuation alert in place for some properties to the north of the fire and there is structure protection in place as well,” said Thomas.

An area restriction is also in effect surrounding the blaze which remains out of control.

“That is really to protect the public and crews working in that area,” she added.

On the northeast shore of Babine Lake is the Deep Creek Wildfire and another area restriction.

That blaze sits at 750 hectares and Thomas said growth was in a favorable direction.

Two large fires near Tweedsmuir Park continue to burn out of control at just under 30,000 hectares each.

All open burning remains banned across most of the centre and to report a fire, call *5555 on a cellphone.
