Rail service expected to resume Monday as Federal Labour Board orders rail workers back to work

It’s back to work for thousands of rail employees as the Federal Labour Board has ordered service to resume, and for CN and CPKC to head to binding arbitration.

Trains are expected to start moving again tomorrow. (Monday)

This comes after the contract dispute that led to the two companies locking out their workers, bringing freight shipments to a halt.

The Teamsters Union representing the workers says it will comply with the ruling but will appeal it, saying it represents a “dangerous precedent.”

Canada’s rail network shut down Thursday morning when CN locked out employees after months of failed talks, while those at CPKC went on strike.

Hours later, the federal government directed the board to resume service, the employees to head back to work, and negotiators to go into binding arbitration.
