The Smithers Art Gallery was recognized for it’s efforts to include everyone in the community today.
The North Region Community Council presented the gallery with a letter thanking them for making the building accessible and inclusive for people with all types of disabilities.
Manager Caroline Bastable says she’s very proud that the Gallery was recognized.
“It’s something that really important to us, to make the gallery accessible. It really is a community place, we are a community art gallery, we want everyone to be involved with the gallery,” she says.
Many pieces from local artists with mental disabilities have been displayed before, and the building made changes to become more accessible for those with physical challenges.
