Wildfire smoke triggers Air Quality Hazard Notice

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako issued an Air Quality Hazard Notice yesterday. (Sunday)

This is due to increased smoke in the region and affects communities from Endako to Smithers.

Some ways to help stay safe through the notice include:

  • Limiting outdoor activities, especially strenuous ones.
  • Keeping windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering your home.
  • Use air purifiers with HEPA filters, if available.
  • If you must be outdoors, consider wearing an N95 mask to reduce smoke inhalation.
  • Avoid using fans that draw smokey air indoors.
  • If you experience difficulty breathing, dizziness, or chest pain, please seek medical attention immediately.

Environment Canada has a Special Air Quality statement issued for the Lakes District also due to the smoke.

The smoke coming through the region is partly from the wildfires burning in Tweedsmuir Park south of Burns Lake.
