The jobless mark in northwest BC hit 7.6 per cent in August.
That’s according to Statistics Canada, adding 7.1 per cent of people in the northwest were without work one year ago.
“In August, there were 3,800 people looking for work and a year ago there were 3,200,” said Analyst Vince Ferrao.
He added about 45,900 people were working in the region that month, which is higher than last year’s 41,600.
In July, the unemployment rate was 5.9 per cent.
Provincially, 5.8 per cent of people were unemployed, which is up 0.5 points from last year.
On the national level, the mark was 6.6 per cent compared to 6.4 in July.
