Wet, windy, and cool fall in store for the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District

More rain could be in store for the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District as the fall season begins.

That’s according to Environment Canada, who also issued a rainfall warning for Smithers today. (Monday)

“For a rainfall warning, we need 50 millimetres of rain in a 24-hour period,” said Meteorologist Lisa Erven.

Along with more rain is also cooler temperatures and possibly strong wind.

“Wind events can be particularly impactful in the fall because the trees are still carrying a lot of their leaves,” she said.

This could cause branches to more easily break off as leaves act like sails, leading to events like power outages.

“Also, we’re moving towards the winter months and the potential for flurries to start impacting the roads,” Erven said.

A break from the rain isn’t expected until Friday night with overnight temperatures sitting above freezing.
