Student Vote close, but not as tight as provincial election

A mock vote done by students across the province was close, but not as tight as the provincial election.

In the leadup to the provincial election, nearly 180,000 students took part in Student Vote, a program run by CIVIX designed to give students under the voting age an opportunity to learn about the electoral process by casting ballots in a ‘mock election’.

The province-wide vote saw the students choose an NDP minority government with 44 seats.

The Conservatives were close behind with 40, while the BC Greens claimed nine seats.

The student vote saw the same result in Bulkley Valley-Stikine, with Sharon Hartwell taking the riding for the Conservatives.

Ten schools participated in the riding.

The students also elected NDP Leader David Eby in Vancouver-Point Grey and Conservative Leader John Rustad in Nechako Lakes.

Contrary to the real vote, Green Leader Sonia Furstenau claimed her seat in Victoria-Beacon Hill.

The full results of the student vote can be found here.
