Feedback on the new Burns Lake Fire Hall has been nothing but positive.
On Friday (Nov. 8th), the village held a grand opening ceremony followed by an open house on Saturday.
“We’ve been in the building now for two weeks,” said Fire Chief Rob Krause.
“I think we’ve done six calls since we moved into the new hall and the guys are quite happy with how it’s working out.”
One of the main points volunteers are enjoying with the new facility is adequate parking so they don’t have to park on the street.
“The second one is the amount of space that we have to get around the hall. In the old hall, we couldn’t even open the truck doors all the way because we’d bang the walls with them,” said Krause.
The community also expressed a liking to how the firehall looked with the new red paint.
“We had somewhere between 300 and 400 people go through the hall in the two events and all the feedback has been positive,” the chief said.
Renovations started in April last year and cost about $4 million for the land, building, and upgrades.
$3.1 million of that was funded through a federal grant and the rest came from the village’s reserves.
The village has hired an architect come up with a plan for how the old fire hall is used.
Krause hopes a couple of the vehicle bays can be used for the Emergency Support Services.
