Smithers Youth Art Exhibit accepting submissions

Youth artists across the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District will be receiving the spotlight at the Smithers Art Gallery.

The exhibit runs every two years with the gallery working with schools to receive submissions from youth grades eight to twelve.

“We’ve had people who’ve created masks and artwork out of cardboard, plastic, and repurposing other items,” said Manager Nicole Chernish.

Digital art pieces have also been featured in the past along with jewelry.

Because the event runs every two years, students who graduated in 2024 are also able to submit pieces from when they were in high school.

“The students can sell their work or not as they wish so it’s an opportunity for people in the community to see what’s going on with youth art, find some of those emerging artists, it’s always really fun,” said Chernish.

Submissions are still open for any youth who wish to enter their work.

The exhibit runs from January 29th to February 22nd, with an opening reception on January 31st.
