Art from high school students featured at the Smithers Art Gallery

Art from Smithers youth is in the spotlight at the Smithers Art Gallery with their biennial Youth Art Exhibit.

Between 40 and 50 pieces were submitted, mostly from students at Smithers Secondary with one artist featured from Ebenezer School.

“It’s probably one of my favorite shows we do because you see these artists as they’re starting to emerge,” said Gallery Manager Nicole Chernish.

“Some of them will carry on in a formal capacity to become artists, others have it as part of their life, but it is so exciting to see what is going on in the minds of youth.”

Included in the works are various paintings and illustrations, photographs, and pottery.

“Really, anything you can think about that’s going on in the art world is going on with our youth and the quality is phenomenal,” said Chernish.

A call for youth artists was released earlier in the month with students in grades eight to twelve submitting pieces to their teachers.

The exhibit runs until February 22nd with an opening reception tomorrow (Friday) night at 7:00.
