Smithers council looked at four new potential logos for the town during last night’s (Tuesday) Commitee of the Whole.
Council approved staff to look into new designs on August 27th last year with a $15,000 budget.
Of the four options presented, staff preferred option three for its incorporation of Hudson Bay Mountain and the Bulkley River.
Councilor Genevieve Paterson expressed preference for option one with the colours of option four because the mountain featured looks like Hudson Bay Mountain.
“The reason why I mention that is thinking about how much out water and forests mean to our community, and I like how number four features both,” she said.
Paterson also liked featuring the slogan “A town for all seasons” in the logo.
“I think people are familiar with “A town for all seasons.” People have heard it many times,” said Councilor Calvin Elliott.
Option four was his for having multiple colours and liked option one.
Councilor Laura Leonard had reserves about updating the logo but liked the design of option one.
The first three options were favoured by Councilor John Buikema with preference to include a slogan in the new logo.
The new logo would not immediately replace the current alpenhorn logo used by the town, only replacing ones used digitally to start with.
When the new design is finalized, a full brand guidebook will be developed.
