Disappointment was felt yesterday (Tuesday) by Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach after US President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian goods.
“Our countries have had such a solid relationship for so many years and to have such an unpredictable and chaotic president in the US doing something so damaging to both of our countries is unreal,” he said.
Talks have also been going on around breaking down provincial trade barriers to allow easier transport and selling of goods.
“All of that is upside. The reality though is Canada is a trading nation and our trade with the US is very important and can’t be replaced overnight,” said Bachrach.
He adds help for workers impacted by the tariffs is needed and is calling for parliament to sit for a discussion.
“I think this whole crisis has got people thinking about what we need to do to protect our country and to protect the things we hold dear as Canadians.”
Bachrach hopes the tariffs can be resolved quickly and fairly for both Canada and the US.
