Smithers and Houston are under a Special Air Quality statement due to high amounts of dust in the air.
This is expected to persist until traffic patterns change, or dust suppression takes place.
According to the Town of Smithers Facebook page, warmer overnight temperatures are needed before they can start dust suppression efforts.
Anyone with chronic conditions like asthma, COPD, heart disease, and diabetes or have a respiratory infection are particularly at risk and should avoid strenuous exercise.
