Province invests into four active transportation projects in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District

Several active transportation projects are slated to start in northwest BC with new ones entering development.

These are funded through the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program with each project receiving up to $500,000.

“By connecting communities with dedicated active transportation infrastructure, we’re encouraging people to cycle, walk or roll, which is good for our health and lessens our reliance on passenger vehicles,” said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Transportation and Transit.

In Burns Lake, a new multi-use pathway along Government Street was approved.

A new multi-use pathway connecting downtown Smithers to the Fulton Avenue path, from there to Highway 16 is in the works.

A paved path in front of Telkwa Elementary on Hankin Avenue is going ahead.

Development has started on a new Active Transportation Network Plan for the Granisle area which is receiving up to $50,000.

Province wide, 53 projects are receiving part of $24 million being distributed this year.

Since 2020, 327 projects between 187 communities have received funding through the program.
