Smithers Community Services’ annual holiday fundraiser is now underway.
The “Christmas Hampers” program donates to families in Smithers, Telkwa, and Moricetown to ensure everyone can have a Christmas dinner.
Hampers include a mix of non-perishable foods, turkey or chicken vouchers, fresh fruit, and toys for kids under 16.
Co-ordinator Anne Harfenist says the group will donate to over 1000 people this holiday season.
“There’s a lot of need in these communities and there’s so much going on. There are so many people having family visits and joy and presents and this helps out the families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to do that,” she says.
Harfenist adds anyone having trouble this Christmas can apply for a hamper, which will be handed out on December 19th.
For a list of need items or to sign up to volunteer check out the website. You can also drop goods off Monday – Saturday from 10 AM – 5:30 PM at their depot at Main and Fourth in Smithers.
