Smithers Council is reminding residents to properly sort their recycling.
A decision was made Tuesday remove two of the three cardboard bins from the transfer station to the depot.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says this is both better for the environment and profitable for the local depot.
“The key thing is we don’t want people throwing cardboard in the transfer station and have it go in the dump because it’s very recyclable,” he says, “the second thing is we need to send a very clear message to residents about where cardboard gets recycled.”
Council reminds townspeople to drop cardboard off at the local bottle depot.
All cardboard will be banned from transfer stations and landfill in July.
