The Air Quality Advisory is in effect in Smithers.
The advisory was issued at 10 AM Thursday due to high concentrations of fine particulates (PM2.5) in the air.
Particulate levels in the air currently read 25.7 µg/m3 (micrograms per cubic metre), just over the Provincial threshold of 25 µg/m3.
The Ministry if Environment says this is due to a spike in wood burning stove use and the cold, still air.
Those likely most affected are infants, people with diabetes, lung and/or heart disease, and the elderly.
The Ministry recommends that residents avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
