Air Quality Advisory issued in Houston Friday, Smithers’ con’t

Wood smoke and still winds lead to two advisories in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes.

The Ministry of Environment issued an advisory in Houston at 9 AM Friday.

The area’s particulate levels are well over the Provincial threshold of 25 µg/m3 (micrograms / cubic metre), currently sitting at 32.1 µg/m3.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s advisory in Smithers is still in effect.

Particulate levels in Smithers have significantly worsened overnight, rising from 25.7 µg/m3 to 32.8 µg/m3.

The Ministry says the poor air is caused by an increase in wood smoke.

It also advises residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities and to stay inside. If you have medical conditions like asthma, a respitory disease or heart failure, the Ministry recommends running an air cleaner.
