Huckleberry Mine’s Pit Operations have been suspended.
The mine’s parent company, Imperial Metals Corporation, made the announcement in an official statement early Wednesday morning.
100 of the mines 260 employees are now out of work.
Spokesperson Steve Robertson says this is an unfortunate situation, especially after the mine’s successful 2015.
“It’s tough to have to make a call like this after having such a solid operating year but this is a prudent move I think that we need to make to try to preserve the resource that we’ve got there,” he says.
Robertson says plummeting copper prices caused the bulk of the problems.
