A pair of local teams qualified for next year’s BC Special Olympics in Bowling.
Two Smithers squads finished first and second at the Regional qualifiers on Sunday. It was a nail-biter, as only four points separated the two.
While it’s nice to qualify, winning coach Jeannie Cramer says the sport is about more than high scores.
“It’s the social aspect of getting together. I don’t even care if they even bowl a 15 or whatever. It’s socializing, it’s getting together, it’s working as a unit,” she says.
Over 30 athletes from Burns Lake, Terrace, and Smithers competed Sunday.
Athletes ranged in age from 11 to over 60.
