A familiar face is shaving his head to support a local project.
Local man (and The Moose’s Thrill Seeker) Kyle Stewart promises to shave his curly locks to raise money for the new skatepark.
To bring awareness to the event, you may have seen him walking through Smithers with some interesting hair-dos.
“People always take cracks at my hair and I figured why not give them, even more, fuel for the fire,” he says, “I started doing some wacky hair styles, we started with the ‘Helmet Cat.’ Last week’s hairstyle was ‘Flock of Seagulls’ which got a great response.”
He moved to Smithers in October 2014 and it wasn’t long before he called it home. He did the same thing last year to help raise money for Jumpstart for Kids, a charity that helps fund children’s athletics.
“I just felt so welcomed here when I moved from Ontario and it was so easy to make friends and people would help you out and go out of their way, so, for me, it was just the gratification of knowing that I moved to a new spot and (this) is what I can do to give back.”
A few weeks ago, his goal was to raise $500. Since then, he’s gotten a lot of support and has planned a fundraising event, so he’s hoping to surpass his goal.
The fundraiser will be a “Burger & Beer” event on April 8th at Boston Pizza. Admission is $20; half will cover dinner, a beer, the other half will be donated to the cause.
There will be live music and a silent auction. If you’d like to donate, you can contact Whiskey Jacks on Hudson Bay Mountain, the Hudson Bay Mountain office, Local Supply Co., or the Moose.
Kyle will shave his head on the April 10th.
