BC Hydro will replace 560 poles in Smithers and the surrounding area.
The company is switching out nearly 12,000 aging poles across the BC in the next few months.
Spokesperson Mora Scott says there may be power outages during replacements.
“Pole replacement may require BC Hydro or our contractors to disconnect the power.”
Outside of Vancouver, Smithers is getting the most poles replaced this year.
Wooden poles have a lifespan of about 50 years. Weather, insects, and wildlife are common causes of decay.
