Shelter asking public to name new baby beavers

The Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter is calling on the public to help them name their two baby beavers.

Shelter manager, Angelika Langen says the babies recently arrived from Quesnel.

“They had two baby beavers come in and they are not set up to take care of them so they asked us if we would take them on and we said yes. The two baby beavers arrived here via Bandstra and now we are looking for names.”

Langen says naming a baby beaver is a little bit tricky.

“We are looking for names that can be used either way because no one will know until they are older and some x-rays can be done whether or not we have boys or girls.”

She says the pair will be rehabilitated at the shelter and then likely given to a reputable zoo because baby beavers have a very low success rate of being re-released into the wild.
